Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttt! Only 49,000 miles. Manual, T-tops, and jump seats are in there under the cap. Asking $11k. Yes, it’s a lot for a slow old toy truck. But I haven’t seen one in years that wasn’t beat up and this might be the lowest mileage one out there. If I had $10k to blow right now I’d do it. Anyway, good night.

I dunno I've always liked the square lamps on it... Maybe because the rounders make me think Mazda REPU or Toyota.

I often see pretty beat Brats for around $500, I’m always really tempted to pull the trigger. Such an odd little truck that will turn head wherever you go, just not generally in a good way...

From early on, I always wanted a BRAT. Now, I hate Subarus with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, and I still want a BRAT. There was a beautiful one at a car show a week or two ago that I showed to my son, trying to sell him on maybe building one together (add a turbo and some 30s...). We’ll see if it sticks. He’s more in to Z’s, because I am and which is fine with me, but I want him to find his own Right Car.

I see a bright green on in the sunset district sometimes, totally repainted and restored. Has no top, just a bar and the seats in back. My dad still has a 1983 Subaru 4 door in Montana that I mess around with when I’m there, it’s so people don’t have to rent a car when they visit. It’s a manual too.

Also, how combining the 20R heads onto the 22R block was the birth of the import tuning scene in the US.

Indeed. My kid wants to build up an old Jeep. I’m not really a fan, but if it her Right Car, I’ll go for it.

I think pre-1990 most Subarus were manual. The Legacy was the model that really started to change that. Certainly most of the older Subarus for sale are manuals, probably because the automatics eventually developed more problems than were worth fixing. I missed a chance recently to grab a sweet brown 1984 GL coupe for $500 that surprisingly was an auto.

I would grab one for $500 if it is even close to running. They seem to be going up slightly in value. I don’t think they’ll ever get too expensive, but I’ve seen some really rough ones asking $2000 here.

Step it up further and go for a Gen 1 Brat. I did that and wish I never sold it. Paid $400 and sold it for $2000. Put about $1600 in to it and blood sweat and tears. I lost sweat equity but would do it all again.

BRAT’s rule!

Exactly! My son has mentioned Jeeps a few times too, which would be an easy and relatively cheap build. Of course, he’s three, so sometimes he says we should build a monster truck, too. I’ll have to wait a few years to let him settle on something appropriate.

That might not happen until he’s 40

I hope it takes that long. I’m 42, and my judgement is highly suspect.
